Community Meeting Minutes
February 3, 2010
Present: Laverne Roberts, Charlene Hardridge, Lou & Gwen Steirer, Jesse

Swifteagle, Delores Lloyd, Al Ramirez, Vernon Medicine Cloud, Anecita

Motion to approve the agenda was made by Delores Lloyd, seconded by
Gwen Steirer, motion carried. Speaker cancelled and will be on the agenda
next month.
Motion to approve December minutes was made by Vernon Medicine
Cloud, seconded by Sherry LeBeau, motion carried.
Laverne Roberts informed the community of a $100.00 payment made to
Eva Esquivel for funeral expenses.
1. Native Family Outreach and Engagement team: No report.
2. Indian Health Center report by Anacita Hernandez: Passed out a flyer
on an upcoming historical trauma conference. The Round Dance was
successful. Dance classes have started. March will introduce the 1st men’s
talking circle and Detrick Thomas will be the facilitator. Tai Chi schedule
was passed out. Applied for funding for renovation but did not get it yet.
Applying for other funding. CDBG asking for one million dollars and will
know in June. Comedy Jam flyer available and will be performed at the
33rd annual California on American Indian education. Counseling program
is doing well.
3. 1st Nation council: Sherry LeBeau will let the community know date of
an upcoming women’s leadership to be scheduled.
4. Baptist group: Working with others on announcing the importance of
the census for Native Americans.
5. KKUP: Teresa says, “same o same o”. Jack is moving.
6. GONA: Cancelled but will have the historical trauma event on March
6th as a mini-GONA.
7. Pow wow calendars: Need sellers.
8. Honoring of Debbie Morillo at Evergreen College on Friday and
another honoring session by Indian Health Service to be announced.
9. Gathering of the wisdom flyer is in our packet which is scheduled for
Sunday, 14th.
10. Navajo weaving information: Date of event is February 20th from 1 to
3 pm and AIA is one of the sponsors who will attend.
11. Historical films flyer is passed out.
12. Azteca Mexica New Year’s celebration scheduled March 13 and 14th
and Sunrise event scheduled at the National Hispanic University.
13. Pow Wow: Next pow wow scheduled for March 20th. The family
asked this event also be a memorial for Nick Comella, which will be
discussed in the board meeting.
14. Indian Education conference March 25-27, 2010 in Santa Clara.
Tom Phillips will be the ongoing MC. AIA has not heard from anyone on
the planning committee. AIA had requested Jack’s name as planning the
color guard. AIA had agreed to help with decorating 30 tables. AIA
submitted the honoring elders for this area.
15. Easter picnic: April 3rd. AIA requesting hard-boiled eggs be brought
to St. Philips the Friday before the picnic.
16. Laverne Roberts gave out a packet of resources, which included
where to go for housing, food, homeless, etc.
17. Next planning meeting for the heritage celebration will be this coming
Thursday at the CTC office, 6 pm.
